Jets win third straight in NAHL Showcase
Janesville blanked the Austin Bruins, 3-0, for its third straight victory and second tournament shutout.
The Jets’ stellar play has surprised coach Dane Litke.
“If you came and watched us practice earlier, you’d never thought we’d be where we are right now,” Litke said. “They’ve played hard and exceeded expectations.’’
Jets’ goalkeeper David Jacobson, a Janesville Parker graduate, made 21 saves to earn his second shutout at the tournament.
“David has been playing very well,” Litke said. “We couldn’t be happier.’’
After playing a scoreless first period, the Jets’ Ross Pavek scored at 1 minute, 16 seconds of the second period and Larkin Jacobson scored on a power play with an assist from Janesville Parker graduate Ross Mauermann and Connor McBride at 11:13 to take a 2-0 lead into the third period.
Pavek scored the Jets’ final goal at 3:49 of the third period.
Janesville is 5-0, but Litke
isn’t going overboard on the early success.
“You’ve got to remember, it’s just September and the season ends in May,” Litke said.
The Jets face the Topeka Roadrunners at 12:30 p.m. today to conclude the tournament.
