Janesville Craig tennis edged; Parker swept

Janesville Craig won two of the three matches that went three sets, but the one the Cougars lost was decisive.


Verona defeated the visiting Cougars, 4-3, in the Big Eight Conference girls tennis match. Craig fell to 3-3 in the Big Eight.


“I was hoping it would be 4-3 for us,” said Craig coach Bill Peyer. No. 3 singles was a tough one. Sarah (Gray) played really well and deserved to win, but she just couldn’t finish it.”


Gray lost, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.


Craig holds Senior Night on Tuesday when they host Sun Prairie.


VERONA 4, CRAIG 3

Junior varsity—Craig 4, Verona 3.


-- Middleton 7, Parker 0—The Big Eight-leading Cardinals coasted to a shutout of Janesville Parker.


Parker (4-4) lost two of three doubles matches in three sets.


“You never know how well you’re going to play against the team the caliber of Middleton, but I was very pleased with the way the girls competed today,” Parker coach Justin Long said. “Middleton is by far the best team we’ve played this season.


“We’ll move forward and get ready for our invitational on Saturday.”


The Vikings will host an eight-team invitational Saturday that also includes Beloit Memorial, Lake Geneva Badger, Elkhorn, Edgerton, Jefferson, Milton and Lake Mills.


MIDDLETON 7, PARKER 0
