Some candidates won by a two-to-one margin. Others had to wait until after 11:00 P.M. to find out their plans for November 2.
Towns and villages in the eastern portion of Rock County ran out of ballots as citizens swarmed to vote in the 45th Assembly district. Counting ballots by hand slowed the election return process for those municipal clerks. Amy Loudenbeck earned the Republican nomination; Roger Anclam claimed a victory for the Democrats. The two will face off in November for the seat currently held by Chuck Benedict. The 45th Assembly district extends into Walworth County.
Joe Knilans will face incumbent Mike Sheridan in the 44th Assembly race. Knilans scored a roughly two-to-one victory over his opponents.
Coroner Jenifer Keach will retain her position, at least for the next term. She won re-election over Terry Holder 60 percent to 40 percent. Voters will decide in November whether they want to move to a medical examiner system. That will be merely an advisory referendum, and the county board is expected to make the final decision.
