— Janesville Parker’s boys soccer team split a pair of games at its own Viking Invitational on Saturday.

The Vikings defeated Poynette/Portage, 2-1, before falling to Appleton West, 2-0.

Appleton West blanked Poynette/Portage, 8-0, in the other game.

Parker coach Andy Holmes was more impressed with the game his team lost.

“Appleton West has a very good team,” he said. “I thought we played our best game of the season.”

Holmes said “our midfield stepped up and we started possessing the ball more. If we can do that, we should be more competitive in our Big Eight games coming up.”

Oren Feldman-Schultz scored an unassisted goal 2 minutes, 29 seconds into Parker’s victory over Poynette/Portage. Seth Dubinski scored on an assist by John Fillion at 34:18 to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.

Holmes said his team had more opportunities, but failed to connect in the second half.

“We had a lot more chances that we should have finished,” he said. “We played well overall, but we have to start finishing more.”
