Janesville Craig High School’s girls swim team finished fifth Saturday in the eight-team Wauwatosa East Invitational.

“They had a real hard meet last night, so I think they were a little tired today,” said Cougars coach Brian Kitzman, whose team defeated Beloit Memorial on Friday for its first Big Eight Conference dual-meet victory of the season. “But they battled really well, and I’m pleased with the results.”

Wausau West won with 376 points, followed by Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine with 350, Madison La Follette with 292, Wauwatosa East with 277.5 and Craig with 242.

“We don’t get to swim against Milwaukee (area) teams very often, so that’s a good thing,” Kitzman added.

Craig also got a look at La Follette, its next opponent in a Big Eight dual on Thursday at La Follette.
