— Janesville Parker High School’s girls golf team stood up to the wind and swept past Janesville Craig and Beloit Memorial in a Big Eight Conference double dual Tuesday at Riverside.

Parker shot a 188, followed by Beloit at 209 and Craig at 230 for the nine-hole event.

The match was nine holes to conform with WIAA rules on matches starting at 2:30 p.m. during the school week.

“With the way daylight is now, there was no way we could have finished 18 holes,” Parker coach Mary Ross said.

Amanda Becker and Taylor Utzig carded 44 apiece as the Vikings improved to 4-2 in the Big Eight.

“We really adapted well to the wind,” Ross said. “We talked (about the wind) before the match and we kept our focus and scored well.”

Ross gave Taylor Utzig a pat on the back for her effort.

“Taylor had a strong day,” Ross said. “She stayed focused as did the whole team.’’

Ashley Hermanns had a 54 for Craig’s low score.

Parker and Craig will compete in the Cardinal-Spartan Invitational on Saturday at Pleasant View in Middleton.
