Beloit Snappers fall to Kernals in finale

— Jeremy Cruz ripped a two-run home run gave the Cedar Rapids Kernals a 6-5 victory and three-game sweep of the Beloit Snappers to conclude the regular Midwest League baseball season Monday.

Beloit was driving to earn a wild-card playoff berth but ended the season losing four of its last five games. Beloit lost 13-5 to Cedar Rapids on Sunday.


The Clinton LumberKings (37-33) finished fourth in the Western Divison and took the wild-card berth over the fifth-place Snappers (34-33).


Cruz hit the winning homer with one out in the ninth inning of Beloit reliever Miguel Munoz (12-7). Cedar Rapids had 11 hits, while Beloit had 10, including home runs from Steve Liddle and Daniel Rams.
