McDonald's five touchdowns lead Verona; Middleton, Memorial roll

Ryan McDonald, Verona High School’s All-Big Eight running back, was in top form Friday night.

McDonald, 5-9, 170-pound senior, scored five touchdowns in rushing 13 times for 154 yards as Verona’s defending co-champions (2-0) rambled to 55-24 victory over host Madison La Follette (0-2) and kept their share of first place.

La Follette’s Jaylen Plummer had 29 carries for 135 yards, while Justin Tobias of the Labncdrs caught six passes for 128 yards.

The Cardinals ran past visiting Purgolders by building a 42-2 halftime lead.

Jamie Hofer rushed five times for 93 yards, including scoring runs of 4 and 32 yards—all in the first quarter.

Otto Vazquez came on and added 86 yards rushing on nine carries, including a 9-yard scoring run. The Cardinals ran for 285 yards on 36 carries, and threw for 73 more.
