— Janesville Parker High School had its moments but not enough of them in a 5-0 loss to Madison West in Big Eight Conference boys soccer here Tuesday night.

“The Regents are good, but we played better than the score shows,” Parker coach Andy Holmes said. “West’s first goal and last goal were excellent goals, but the goals in the middle were more mental lapses on our part.’’

The Vikings need to play more consistently, Holmes said.

“We need to shoot the ball more,” he said. “We had times in the game we looked good, but we need to do it for 80 minutes.’’

Parker (2-3, 0-2) plays at Verona at 5 p.m. Thursday.

-- La Follette 4, Craig 1—Janesville Craig was the first team this season to score on Madison La Follette, but it wasn’t the first team to defeat the Lancers.

Craig lost, 4-1, in a Big Eight Conference match at La Follette.

The Cougars’ Mo McCrone scored at 32-minutes to it at 1-1.

“I told the team, ‘Just play smart and we’ll go into halftime with a 1-1 tie,’ ” Craig coach Charly Friedrich said. “But we made a mental mistake.’’

The Lancers’ Tyler Saad scored off an assist with 30 seconds remaining in the half to put La Follette ahead for good, 2-1.

“They just slipped one in,” Friedrich said.

La Follette (6-0-1) scored its third goal two minutes into the second half and added its final goal on a penalty kick.

“In the space of six minutes, La Follette scored its goals,” Friedrich said. “We have to stop our lapses.’’

Craig, 0-2 in the Big Eight, hosts Madison Memorial at 7 p.m. Thursday.
