A Genoa City man was placed on nine months of probation for his part in burglarizing homes, damaging property and stealing from parked cars in Lake Geneva last summer.

Christopher George, 18, was sentenced Tuesday by Walworth County Judge Robert Kennedy after the defendant pleaded guilty to nine criminal counts linked to the crime spree.

The reduced sentence was a plea bargain between George and the Walworth County District Attorney's Office.

Kennedy initially imposed and stayed a 27 month jail sentence and 27 months of probation. Kennedy sternly warned George that if he violated probation, the much stiffer sentence would be put in force.

Three teens, including George, were caught by police in late July with iPods, GPS units, digital cameras and more than $40 in cash and coins on them.

Jermaine Scott, 19, of Chicago also was arrested, along with a 16-year-old girl, according to police records.

Scott has been charged with two counts of theft. He is facing a bond forfeiture hearing on Nov. 24 for not making earlier court appearances.

The 16-year-old was referred to juvenile court.
