Area players spark Beloit College victory

— Milton High School graduate Andrew Christensen took the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown to spark Beloit College to a 34-27 victory over visiting Monmouth in Midwest Conference football Saturday.

Christensen added a 9-yard touchdown pass from Brian Maughn. Meanwhile, Edgerton graduate Derek Carrier had TD receptions of 79 and 31 yards.


The Buccaneers (4-4, 4-3) led 20-13 at the half and 34-13 after three quarters. Monmouth had scoring drives of 48 and 63 yards in the fourth quarter, but the Bucs held on for the final 2:23 for the victory.


Maughn completed 18 of 26 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Carrier had four catches for 127 yards.
