Beloit officials appear willing to fight the federal government to remain associated with Janesville.

Beloit city officials are preparing an appeal to prevent the Census Bureau from attaching Beloit to the Rockford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Currently Beloit is attached to the Rock County MSA. Beloit officials argue Beloit has more in common with Janesville than Rockford. The two communities are working in cooperation on a variety of issues including economic development. The two communities also have a number of collaborative services shared through Rock County government. The Census Bureau though considers development between Rockford and Beloit, an almost continuous urban land use including Loves Park, Machesney Park, Roscoe, and South Beloit.

The appeal is expected to be submitted long before a late November deadline.
