— Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ will take over prosecuting the case of a 41-year-old Lake Geneva woman accused of falsely portraying herself as an official from the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office.

Walworth County Judge Robert Kennedy on Thursday approved giving the case to Happ.

Michelle E. Irwin, 41, is accused of attempting to derail the pending jury trial of a friend’s sixth drunken driving charge.

Kennedy said it was likely local prosecutors would be state witnesses in the case, requiring that it should be handled by Happ.

The special prosecutor will review the facts of the case to determine if it should go forward as now presented or if a new criminal complaint should be drafted.

Irwin, who is free on bond, is accused of sending letters to state witnesses against Mark “Tony” Cantieri saying that his June jury trial had been cancelled, according to a criminal complaint
