— Police are investigating a series of daytime burglaries reported in the last month.

Several homes on the south side and near east side have been burglarized, according to a Janesville Police Department news release.

Some homes were forcibly entered, but most were not, according to the police department. Items stolen include cash, jewelry and televisions.

Anyone who sees suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhood during daylight hours should call police. People also should call police if they believe a stranger is at their house without a legitimate reason.

Police offer the following tips to prevent being burglarized:

-- Lock your doors.

-- Donít leave valuables such as purses, wallets and other items near windows or doors.

-- Use automatic timers on lights, radios and televisions.

-- Ask a trusted neighbor to watch your home and collect your mail and newspaper when youíre out of town.

-- Landscape your yard to provide visibility to and from the house.

-- Use outdoor lighting to eliminate hiding places and deter burglars.
