A Middleton man is dead after a motorcycle crash early Monday morning north of Evansville.

Rock County Sheriff's officials say deputies, Evansville Police, Evansville EMS and Janesville paramedics responded at 12:37am to the crash at Highway 14 and West Union Road.

Upon arrival, EMS found the 64-year-old man lying on the ground unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at 2:45am.

Officials say it appears the man was northbound on Highway 14 and had completed a curve. He then drove off the road onto the gravel shoulder, struck a culvert and was ejected. He suffered a head injury and was not wearing a helmet.

Officials say alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
