Brodhead/Juda escaped a bases-loaded seventh inning for a 4-3 victory over Evansville in a WIAA Division 2 regional baseball opener Friday.

The visiting Cardinals’ upset erased the chance for a meeting between Rock Valley North co-champions Evansville and Edgerton on Tuesday. Instead, Brodhead/Juda will take on the Crimson Tide, which received a first-round bye, in a regional semifinal game at Edgerton that leads to the Evansville Sectional.

Carson Scheidegger no-hit the Blue Devils through the first five innings as Brodhead/Juda rolled to a 4-0 lead. Ethan Douglas ripped a two-run single in the fifth to score what proved to be the winning run.

Evansville’s Brian Lunde singled to end Scheidegger’s no-hitter in the sixth. Casey Mosley hit an RBI single, and Jeremy Weaver added an RBI ground ball to cut Brodhead/Juda’s lead to 4-2.

After getting within 4-3, Evansville loaded the bases with two outs, but Scheidegger recorded his fifth strikeout to end the game.
