Janesville Craig loses
Verona took advantage of two Craig High errors to post a 2-1 Big Eight Conference win in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The Cougars finished 16-9 overall, including 11-7 in the Big Eight, and are the No. 2 seed in the Craig Sectional.
After tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on Dylan Hoskins’ RBI groundout, the Cougars gave the Wildcats the winning run on a fielding error in the fifth.
“We make the plays that we’re supposed to that led to the two errors, and it’s a 1-0 game in our favor,” Craig coach Vic Herbst said. “Plus, we didn’t swing the bats very well. We watched too many fastballs.”

“Mike (Davis) kept us in the game by throwing strikes and not walking anybody, but we let him down with our gloves and our bats.”
Davis pitched a complete game but suffered the loss. The senior allowed two unearned runs in six innings and seven hits.
Craig has the bye in the first round of the regional and host the winner of the Milton vs. Madison Memorial game next Friday at Riverside Park.
