— Once Mitch Phillips turned on the engine of the Janesville Craig's offense, there was no stopping the Cougars.

Phillip's hit a two-run homer with two outs in the third inning to break a scoreless tie, and Craig High went on to bounce visiting Madison West, 10-0, in a Big Eight Conference baseball game stopped after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Craig (16-8, 11-6) ends the Big Eight schedule at Verona at 5 p.m. today.

The Cougars were having problems with the ninth-place Regents (6-18, 3-14) until Tom Yaucher hit a two-out single in the third, and Phillips followed with a homer. Mike Davis and Dylan Hoskins each followed with singles, Charlie Meyer walked, and Mitch Perkins hit a two-run single to put Craig up 4-0.

Christian DeCremer drove home Austin Geller with a single to make it 5-0 in the fourth, and the Cougars ended the game with a five-run fifth that featured four singles and three walks.

Cody Steed pitched all five innings for the Cougars, allowing just two hits while striking out five.

"Steed was in command all night long," Craig coach Vic Herbst said. "He never got into any serious trouble."
