— Janesville Parker fell to visiting Beloit Memorial, 5-3, in eight innings in Big Eight Conference softball Wednesday at Dawson Field.

Parker High starter Ashley Ross pitched a shutout through the first six innings, but the Purple Knights touched her for three runs on four hits in the seventh for a 3-2 lead.

The Vikings' Natalie McDonald drew a walk, advanced on an error and passed ball, and scored on a fielder's choice to tie it. In the eighth, the Knights scored on a home run and an RBI triple for the victory.

"We had a few mental mistakes on the base paths, and we could have scored a couple of runs," said Parker coach Jenni Seisser. "We hit the ball and did well in the field.''

The Vikings (3-17, 2-15) host Madison East at 4 p.m. today at Dawson Field.
