— UW-Whitewater freshman Shelby Demos, a 2009 Janesville Parker High graduate, will compete in the high jump at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships today through Saturday at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

Demos already has earned All-America honors with a tie for sixth place in the high jump in the NCAA Division III indoor meet. Demos holds the school record at 5 feet, 8 inches.

Last year's winner, Ashley Huston of Hardin-Simmons, cleared 5-7. Kristy Laramee of Middlebury and Maria Megnin of Hartwick College share the Division III record at 5-11.25, both in the 1999 championship.

Whitewater's women's qualifiers include Brooke Bell in the 100 and 200, Sara Poppe in the long jump and triple jump, Jessa Luebke in the hammer throw, Demos in the high jump, and JoLyn Owen in the heptathlon.

Meanwhile, Edgerton's Shaun Davis, a senior, will be a favorite in the hammer throw and the discus for the Warhawks' men's qualifiers. Davis placed second in both events at the 2009 NCAA outdoor meet.

Also, Whitewater High graduate Luke Buchholz, a junior, will compete in the high jump and the 1,600 meter relay.

Buchholz is also making a return appearance. He will be shooting for his third All-America honor, with a fourth-place finish indoors in March and a tie for eighth indoors in 2009 already in hand.

Davis and Buchholz are joined at the NCAA championships by Warhawk teammates Pat Lockington in the decathlon, Peter Schroeder in the 400 hurdles, Aron Kehoe and Jeremie Bogard in the 800, Ben Stringer in the discus and Tom Fisher in the high jump and 1,600 relay.

The top eight finishers in each event earn all-America honors.
