— Janesville Craig swept past Fort Atkinson in a nonconference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Riverside Park.

Craig High received strong pitching and hitting to post 7-0 and 8-3 victories over the Blackhawks. The victories lifted Craig to 15-10 overall, while Fort Atkinson fell to 1-18 after going 0-12 in the Badger South.

“It was a good day for the Cougars,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said. “These victories should help us going into the sectional seeding meeting on Monday.’’

In the opener, Tyler Bloom and Brandon Hughes combined to throw a four-hit shutout. Bloom allowed two hits in five innings, walking one and notching five strikeouts for the victory. Hughes allowed two hits and posted a pair of strikeouts through the final two innings.

Craig scored four runs on three hits in the second inning to take control. Jameson Henning and Austin Geller doubled to drive in three runs in the inning.

The Cougars added three runs on the fourth inning. Christian DeCreamer and Tom Yaucher hit back-to-back doubles to highlight the inning.

In Game 2, Craig pitchers Austin Geller, Mike Davis and Korey Quade combined to stop Fort on six hits.

Tom McCulloch ripped a bases-loaded double in Craig’s five-run run sixth inning to give the Cougars a 7-3 lead.

“We received two quality starts and excellent relief, which is huge for us,” Herbst said.

Craig hosts Madison West at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Park.
