— Paige Weber capped off a perfect week for Janesville Craig High's softball team by firing a complete-game two-hitter Thursday at Dawson Ball Field.

Weber struck out five and did not walk a batter in leading the Cougars to a 4-0 Big Eight Conference win over Madison West.

Craig High improved to 17-4 overall, including an impressive 15-2 in conference play. The Cougars are one-game behind first-place Verona with one conference game remaining.

"If somebody would've told me before the season that we would be 17-4 at this point of the year, I would've taken it in a minute," Craig High coach Dan Bayreuther said. "The girls are playing very well right now in all facets of the game.

"I'm really proud of our four seniors," Bayreuther said of Gabrielle Cassady, Whitney Oliver, Lindsey Oliver and Kelly Moench. "Today was Senior Day, and those four have been a big part of our success this season."

The Cougars got three in the bottom of the first, keyed by RBI singles from Leigh Grall and Whitney Oliver.

Grall made it 4-0 in the fifth when she tripled and scored on Gabrielle Cassady's sacrifice fly.

Craig High will wrap up the conference season Tuesday at Sun Prairie.
