Verona, Middleton soccer take down local teams

— Alex Melin scored twice and added three assists to lead Verona High School's girls soccer team to an 8-0 Big Eight Conference win over Janesville Craig here Thursday night.

The Cougars (6-11-3 overall) finished the conference portion of their season with a 3-5-1 record.

"Verona was the best team we've seen all year," Craig High coach Bill McCabe said. "They might be the best passing team I've seen in the last four years.

"We got down again after giving up three goal in the first seven minutes of the game, so we just have to find a way to start stronger."

The Cougars host Lake Mills tonight in a nonconference game to conclude the regular season.

-- Middleton 11, Parker 0—The host Cardinals overwhelmed Janesville Parker in picking up the Big Eight Conference victory.

Middleton had a 5-0 lead at halftime.

"Middleton has two junior varsity teams, so that tells you where their program is at," Parker coach Amy Wargowsky said. "They've got a really nice club."

Parker (1-13, 0-9) hosts Elkhorn in a nonconference game tonight.
