Unarmed victims chase armed robbers

WCLO's Steve Benton reports police encourage robbery victims to be good witnesses and to not chase armed suspects
BELOIT Beloit police say chasing after armed robbery suspects is not a good idea if you're an unarmed victim.
At least two such victims decided to try to stop the masked men who allegedly robbed the "Filling Station" bar early Friday morning. One of the men was armed with what was described as a "long gun," probably a rifle or a shotgun.
Beloit police captain Dan Risse says the department doesn't have a policy on that type of pursuit, but they suggest you not risk your life for the theft of property.
Investigators say the two bar patrons, one on foot and the other in a car, attempted to follow the suspects. They, and a police K-9 unit, were not successful.
The case is now assigned to a detective.

Dangerous business all around. I like this bar possessing a classy staff. Now, what are the rights of the patrons? If someone had the ability to shoot this armed individual while he/she was in the bar, could he have? How does anybody know if these assailants would have started shooting "witnesses" after their robbery...?
Glad I missed this one. My rifle would have been in the car.
