— With a busy schedule this week, Janesville Parker baseball coach Brian Martin had to dip into his bullpen for a starting pitcher against Madison La Follette here Thursday.

Martin made the right choice.

Senior Josh Garcia pitched a complete-game five-hitter, and the Vikings used a three-run first to help down the Lancers, 5-3, a Big Eight Conference game.

Parker played Janesville Craig on Tuesday and has games against Milton this afternoon and at Kenosha Tremper on Saturday.

Garcia helped save pitching arms by going the distance Thursday.

"He has been a reliever all year," said Martin. "It definitely helps us."

The Vikings, who are 6-10 in the Big Eight and 9-11 overall, have had six solid pitching efforts in a row while winning five of their last seven games. A three-run first inning gave Garcia breathing room.

Tyler Teubert led off with a single and stole second. Jake Welch singled home Teubert and then stole second. Matt Fielder hit an RBI double, and scored the inning's final run on Garcia's single.

Parker went up 4-2 in the third on Jeff Henke's RBI single. The Vikings' final run came in the fourth when Tanner Moe doubled with one out and scored on Fiedler's RBI single.

The Lancers (9-6) were coming off a victory over first-place Middleton earlier this week.

Teubert, Moe, Welch, Fiedler, Garcia and Henke each had two hits for Parker.

Parker's game at Riverside Park against Milton starts at 4:30 p.m. today.
