— A Janesville elementary school is using the untimely death of a staff member as a rally point for physical fitness projects.

The first annual "Mr. Cain Memorial Run/Walk" is scheduled for Friday from 3pm to 5:30pm at Van Buren elementary school. The event is meant to honor Larry Cain, a beloved physical education teacher, who passed away in November.

Principal at the school, Kori Settersten, says money raised will be used to build an asphalt running track on the school grounds. The school's PTA is pitching in with a $6,000 donation. Settersten hopes the run/walk will bring in another $8,000 to $10,000. She says they want to work with the school district to create a memorial fund which can be used for future physical fitness projects.
