— Janesville Parker High School's softball team finally found paydirt in the Big Eight Conference with a 6-4 victory over visiting Madison La Follette here Tuesday.

The Vikings secured their first league victory to improve to 1-14 and 2-17 overall.

Parker had to survive a tough seventh inning. The Lancers' Anyssa Schulte ripped a two-out, bases-loaded triple to cut the Vikings' 6-1 lead to the final margin.

Reliver Ashley Ross coaxed an infield pop-up for the third out to seal the victory.

"Our defense was behind us," Parker coach Jenni Seisser said. "We had two errors, but we still played solid and made plays when we had to.''

Parker starter Maggie Tracey notched six strikeouts and did not issue a walk through the first four innings. Ross came on in the fifth.

"La Follette started to time Tracey a little bit," Seisser said. "I brought in Ross for a different-pace pitcher, and it finally worked to our advantage.''

Parker scored the winning run in the fifth. Jensen Henke hit an RBI single, and La Follette pitching walked in a run to put Parker ahead 6-1.

Parker travels to Madison Memorial on Thursday afternoon.
