— Tommy Meister of Janesville Craig High School’s boys track and field team was named the MVP of the Hartford Invitational on Friday.

The Cougars swept the boys and girls titles. The Craig boys earned 188 points, and the girls posted 157.5.

Meister won the 800 (2:01.15) and 1,600 (4:31.85) runs.

“It was really a great meet for Tom,” Craig boys coach Jeff Deininger said. “Those races are really tough to win in one night.’’

Craig’s Tom Kitching won the pole vault with a personal best of 12 feet, 6 inches. Cy Badertscher won the long jump (20-10), and Ryan Fenrick won the 3,200 (10:27.54). The Cougars won the 3,200 (8:32.5) and 1,600 (3:34.53) relays.

“We won as a team,” said Deininger. “We are still improving, which is a good thing for us.’’

Coach Mark Marsden needed extra effort from the girls.

“We did this shorthanded,” he said. “I guess it just shows our depth.’’

Craig’s Jessica Washington won the pole vault (9-0); Kaylyn Funk won the shot put (35-2); Kayla Rohr won the discus (108-6), and Katie Bagley won the 800 (2:25.96).
