The Janesville Nighthawks football team begins its second season in the Gridiron Football League at 7 p.m. today at Lake Zurich, Ill.

Coach Topher Diehl said the second season has a much better start than the inaugural season when the team was the Janesville Mustangs.

“We have 37 players,” Diehl said Thursday night. “That’s a lot better than the 11 we started with last year.”

The team plays its first three games on the road and has a bye week in between the second and third games.

The Nighthawks’ first home game is June 11. The team will play at Marshall Middle School, with two games at Monterey Stadium and two other games at Monterey Park.

Six of the team’s players are from Illinois, with the remaining 31 from Rock County.

More information on the team is available at the team’s website at janesvillenighthawks.com.
