Janesville Damon’s will close down after Sunday
The closing is the result of a difficult economy, manager Kim Ott said.
“We have a really solid fan base that will be devastated,” Ott said. “But while we may fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, it’s hard when the place is empty the other days.
“We have a lot of overhead here. This is a big restaurant.”
Ott said the restaurant, which is owned by an Ohio franchisee, employs 75 to 80 people in its restaurant and catering business.
Ott believes the city has issued too many food licenses. There just aren’t enough people—particularly in tough economic times—to support all of the restaurants in Janesville, she said.
“I drive around and pay attention,” she said. “We are not the only one that’s suffering.”
The restaurant at 3111 Wellington Place is the last of five Damon’s in Wisconsin. It has focused on casual fare in either a quiet dining room or in its Clubhouse with a multi-screen entertainment system offering sports, network programming and interactive games.
Ott encouraged holders of Damon’s gift certificates to use them before the restaurant closes Sunday.
