— The Beloit City Council may be getting ready to take some steps toward participation in a new casino application.

City Manager, Larry Arft, is preparing to brief the council at a special, closed session, Monday night. Arft says if a new casino application is submitted, there would need to be a new intergovernmental agreement worked out.

The original Chippewa tribes involved, the St. Croix and Bad River bands, and now the Ho Chunk, are currently negotiating their relationship in a possible new application.

Arft says the city is "cautiously optimistic as this process continues to creep forward that this will end up being a stronger application than the original."

The council is not scheduled to reconvene after the special meeting and no announcements are expected.
