Cougars knock Beloit Snappers out of first-place tie

— The Beloit Snappers were held to three hits in a 5-1 loss to the visiting Kane County Cougars in Midwest League baseball Tuesday night.

The loss dropped Beloit (19-13) out of a first-place tie in the Western Division, a half-game behind Quad Cities (20-13), which split a doubleheader.


Kane County scored twice in the second inning on a double and pair of singles for the only runs the Cougas needed.


Daniel Straily (4-1) allowed one run in three hits through six innings to gain the victory. Beloit starter Michael Tonkin (0-1) allowed three runs on six hits through four innings to take the loss.
