School district clarifies proposed levy increase
Taxpayers in the Janesville school district might not pay a six percent tax levy increase, as proposed by the school board last week.
Superintendent Karen Schulte told the board Tuesday night the increase would be about 4.7 percent. The board approved the levy increase as a goal for administration. The final budget has not yet been approved.
Commissioner Kevin Murray says the school district is just softening the blow, but the district needs to feel the pain of the economy, too. He suggested a moratorium on promotions within the district.
