Dean pitches Fort to win over Albion
The Fort Atkinson Generals showed Albion why they’re defending Southeast Section champions in Home League baseball.
Dan Dean collected 12 strikeouts and pitched into the ninth inning Sunday in leading the Generals past the Tigers, 4-1, in Albion’s home opener.
Albion left 11 runners on base in falling to 1-1 in the West Division, while Fort Atkinson scored three unearned runs in boosting its East Division record to 2-0. The Tigers failed to score after loading the bases in the first and ninth innings.
Jacob Soriano’s RBI triple highlighted Fort Atkinson surge to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Soriano scored the second run on an infield error.
Josh Eastman singled and scored on Marty Johnson’s seventh-inning double for Albion’s only run.
The Tigers finished with six hits off Dean and reliever Rick Klotz. Fort Atkinson got five hits of Mike Nanstad and Justin Lambert.

-- Evansville 3, Lake Mills 2—Chad Rasmussen went 4-for-4 and Jeremy Rasmussen was 3-for-4, accounting for seven of Evansville’s nine hits in leading the Jays (1-1) past visiting Lake Mills (1-1).
Chad’s two-out single gave Evansville a 1-0 in the fourth. Jeremy had RBI hits in the fifth and seventh.
Matt Drefahl pitched a complete-game seven-hitter for Evansville. Lake Mills’ only runs came in the seventh and ninth innings.
-- Whitewater 8, Orfordville 3—Rory Kolo drove in four runs with a single and double to lead Whitewater’s victory at Orfordville.
The Swingers (1-1) took the lead for good with a first-inning run and had a 4-0 lead through six innings. Nick Reather was 3-for-5 to lead Whitewater’s 14-hit attack.
Orfordville (0-2) got only four hits of two Whitewater pitchers.
-- Cambridge 3, McFarland 1—Pinch-hitter Mike Bassetti singled home the first of two ninth-ninth Cambridge runs that broke a 1-1 tie with visiting McFarland and left both teams at 1-1.
-- Stoughton 9, Deerfield 1—Eric Engler’s four-hit pitching, which featured nine strikeouts, led Stouthton (1-1) past host Deerfield (1-1).
The victorious Merchants had 14 hits.
-- Utica 3, Jefferson 1—Kyle Bates broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run single in the fourth inning for Utica, which grabbed the undisputed West Division lead at 2-0 and dropped Jefferson to 0-2 in the East.
