— The wins continue to pile up for Janesville Craig’s softball team.

Tuesday at Madison La Follette, the Cougars built an early 5-0 lead and coasted to a 6-3 Big Eight Conference win.

Craig (12-3, 10-2) remained one game behind first-place Verona with the win.

“Other than getting a little sloppy in the seventh inning, we played a pretty complete game,” Craig High coach Dan Bayreuther said. “We got out to an early lead, and both pitchers did a good job for us.”

The Cougars scored twice in the both the first and second innings. Gabrielle Cassady and Lindsey Oliver had RBIs in the first inning to make it 2-0, and RBIs by Haley Bayreuther and Stephanie Perleberg made it 4-0 in the second.

Craig finished with 11 hits, but committed four errors.

The Cougars host Madison Memorial at 4 p.m. Friday at Dawson Ball Field.

6-4—Errors continue to plague the Janesville Parker softball team.

The Vikings remained without a victory, losing two eight-inning Big Eight Conference games to Madison West, 10-6 and 5-4.

“In both games, we had the lead,” said Parker coach Jenni Seisser. “But we get comfortable with those leads, and we let them creep right back in. We just don’t close the door with two outs.”

Parker committed 10 errors in the first game, including three in West’s decisive five-run eighth inning.

Ashley Ross pitched a complete game in the opener and had three RBIs. Jackie Ludois, Cierra Carney and Brittany Stuttgen each had one RBI.

Ross and Stuttgen each had two hits in the second game, which the Vikings led 3-0 after two innings. Alyssa Byford added a triple.

Parker, 0-9 in the league and 0-11 overall, plays Lake Geneva Badger today in a nonconference game at Dawson.
