— Colin Grove was the difference-maker Tuesday for Beloit Memorial’s baseball team.

Grove struck out 10 Janesville Parker batters and also drove in the winning run in the fifth inning, as the Purple Knights rallied for a 5-4 Big Eight Conference win.

Parker (5-7, 3-7), despite home runs from Tyler Teubert and Jake Welch, lost its fifth straight conference game.

“We had it and it slipped through our hands,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “One bad inning cost us again.

“After cruising through the first four innings, Andy (Kersten) started to tire a little in the fifth, and Beloit took advantage. Plus, we had a couple of mental errors that cost us.”

Parker took a 1-0 lead in the third on Welch’s RBI single, and made it 3-0 in the fifth on a Welch solo home run and a wild pitch.

Beloit (7-6, 4-6) took the lead for good with a five-run fifth, capped off by Grove’s RBI single.

Teubert made it 5-4 in the seventh with a solo home run, but Cameron Roegner struck out the side to pick up the save.

Parker struck out 13 times in the game.

The Vikings play a doubleheader at Sun Prairie on Saturday.
