As the Janesville School Board discusses the district's Chinese and Challenge programs, they could really be talking about boosting enrollment.

Director of Instruction Donna Behn says not every school district offers these specialized programs, and that could be an incentive for families to move to Janesville. She says funding for the Challenge gifted and talented program is based on point of view. There are staff members willing to expand the program and include third grade students, but technically that would be adding a position. Fourth grade through eight grade in Roosevelt Elementary and Edison Middle schools are currently able to enroll in the Challenge program.
