Two Janesville students expelled

— The Janesville School Board expelled two students last week. They were:

-- A high school student accused of possessing at 4-inch butterfly knife on school grounds. The student was expelled through the end of summer school 2011 but may apply for early reinstatement in September 2010 if he or she complies with conditions of probation, enrolls in counseling, is assessed for alcohol and drug abuse, continues to take prescribed medication and abstains from alcohol.


-- A middle school student who was accused of repeated refusal to obey school rules. The student was expelled through the end of summer school 2011 but may apply for early reinstatement in September 2010 if he or she complies with conditions of probation, including counseling; completes academic work assigned; and applies to the TAGOS Academy.


This brings to 24 the number of students expelled this school year, compared with 29 at this time last year.
