— A gay preacher will speak at the Red Door, a Christian church that meets at the Willowdale Saloon, on Sunday.

Michael Williams has shared the same platform with popular evangelicals such as Joel Osteen of Lakeland Church in Houston and Pat Robertson, according to a news release.

Williams later gained notoriety for being a high profile “ex-gay” who acknowledged years later that he is in fact still gay.

Williams acknowledges that scriptures condemn homosexuality. “I don’t reject my condemnation, for had I not been condemned, I would not have realized I’m redeemed,” he said in the release.

Williams sees homosexuality and sin as non-issues with God and backs up his claim with analysis of the Scriptures.

Williams said evangelical Christianity is based on a requirement to believe in Jesus Christ or suffer punishment in hell, “which is absolutely counter to the Gospel of peace and grace,” he said.

Host of the meetings is Kathy Price, who founded Red Door Ministry. The group meets regularly at the bar. The Willowdale is at 5905 W. Highway 11. Services are 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. For more information, call Price at (608) 728-3284.
