— The Janesville Craig Spotlighters wrapped up their show-choir competition season with first runner-up honors in Iowa on Saturday.

The MO Show Invitational was at Cedar Rapids Washington High School.

The grand champion of the seven-school competition was Cedar Rapids Xavier High School.

The Spotlighters won for best choreography, most effective costuming and best female soloist in a show, Claire Olsen.

The Spotlighters also won the People's Choice Award.

The competition marks the end of a successful season for the Spotlighters. They won three grand championships and one first runner up award in six competitions.

The Spotlighters also won four awards for best choreography, one for best band and five best female soloist awards, all by Olsen.

Also at Saturday's competition, Craig's All That Jazz ensemble took fourth place in the vocal jazz portion, and Olsen won the outstanding jazz soloist award.

The Spotlighters and All That Jazz will travel to New York City to compete in the Big Apple Classic, April 13-18.

The final concert of the year for both groups will be at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at the Craig High School Large Auditorium.

The Spotlighter's always win the People's Choice Award because the parents buy extra ballots and stuff the box. The award goes to the group with the most votes, so the group with the parents with the most money.

Anyway, good job Spotlighter's. That's a nice accomplishment after so few years as a competing group. Mo Show is a pretty tough competition.
