— First-inning three-run homers aren’t something Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo usually is willing to shrug off.

But this being the exhibition season, Wednesday’s early miscue was looked on as just something that will happen.

Milwaukee lost to a San Diego split squad, 5-4. Gallardo was happy with how he threw in his start after he got through the first inning.

Gallardo, who was 13-12 with a 3.73 ERA in 30 starts in 2009, said he was hurrying himself early when he allowed a single to David Eckstein and walked Adrian Gonzalez with one out. One out later, Gallardo caught too much of the plate with an 0-1 slider, and Will Venable launched it for a homer.

“I was rushing out there but after that I found that rhythm,” Gallardo said. “I felt really good.”

Shortstop Alcides Escobar and catcher Gregg Zaun each had two hits for the Brewers.
