WCLO's Steve Benton reports on Police Chief Norm Jacob's choice for Deputy Police Chief

RSS

— Beloit Police Chief, Norm Jacobs, has selected one of his captains as the next Deputy Chief. Tom Dunkin was hired as a patrol officer in 1988, after being convinced by his father in-law to "give it a try."

Dunkin was assigned to the Rock County Metro Unit in 1994 and worked as an undercover officer. He then moved into the detective bureau at the Beloit police department in 1995. His first promotion, to sergeant, came in 1999. Three years later he was promoted to Captain of the patrol division, a job he will hold until his position as Deputy Chief is confirmed by the police and fire commission. That confirmation is expected at the commission's March, 22nd meeting.

Tom is a graduate of Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, and the School of Police Staff and Command. He is currently enrolled in upper Iowa University. Tom and his wife, Regina, are very active in the community. Regina is the Director of the Merrill Community Center in Beloit.
