Splittgerber powers Jefferson

Jessica Splittgerber was in top form Tuesday night for Jefferson High.

Splittgerber, a 5-7 senior guard, made 15 of 16 free throws and scored 30 points as the Eagles soared past Whitewater, 59-46, in a WIAA Division 2 regional girls basketball opener.

After splitting a pair of regular-season games with the Whippets, Jefferson gained control this time with a 25-13 advantage in the first half and led 41-25 after three quarters.

Jessica Shelbourn led visiting Whitewater (8-15) with 18 points.

Jefferson plays at top-seeded Pewaukee (20-2) in Thursday’s regional semifinals. The winner draws Waukesha Memorial (13-9) or Lakeside Lutheran (19-4) in Saturday’s regional title game, which leads to the Waukesha South Sectional.

-- Lakeside 57, East Troy 30—The Warriors jumped out to an 18-point halftime lead en route to the Division 2 regional quarterfinal win.

Lakeside (19-4) hosts Waukesha Memorial (13-9) on Thursday in a regional semifinal. East Troy finished 9-14.

Alex Anthon led Lakeside with 18 points.

-- Catholic Memorial 57, Fort Atkinson 47—Waukesha Memorial led 31-21 at the half and maintained the 10-point spread to win a Division 2 regional opener.

Memorial (13-9) plays at Lakeside Lutheran (19-4) in Thursday’s regional semifinals. Fort Atkinson finished 5-18.

Marie Fitzgerald scored 20 points to pace the Blackhawks.
