Lothian staffer announces run for Assembly
WALWORTH Tyler August calls himself a “no-nonsense” conservative who believes small, efficient and effective government is the key to helping the state bounce back from the recession.
August, 27, a Walworth native and chairman of the 1st Congressional District Republican Party, on Monday announced he is running for the 32nd Assembly District seat.
Rep. Tom Lothian, R-Williams Bay, who has held the seat since 2002, is not seeking re-election. August has served as chief of staff under Lothian for several years.
“I will work to eliminate useless government programs and force government to run more efficiently,” August said. “This will lead to reductions in spending and cutting taxes. This is the only way to convince businesses to move into Wisconsin and provide the family supporting jobs this state is desperately lacking.”
Dan Necci, 30, an attorney who lives in Delavan and recently opened his own practice in Lake Geneva, and Doug Harrod, 64, a health teacher at Badger High School in Lake Geneva, have filed declarations to run.
August said he is running because he understands the concerns of the district.
“I feel like I know that district like the back of my hand,” he said. “It’s my community, and I think it’s the right time to pick up where (Lothian) left off and continue working for the community.”
August said he wants to build on the “solid conservative record” of his predecessor.
“I have had the privilege to work closely with (Lothian), fighting to reduce our tax burden and eliminate unneeded regulations on our businesses,” he said. “I want to encourage businesses to come to Wisconsin, not drive them out.

I wish once and for all those left-wing liberals and local democrats would realize that someone gave them a chance to prove themselves in a job, once upon a time. They didn't have experience either. If you understand the process enough to run a legislator's office, your degree is in Poli-Sci and you have a platform of goals and values, how could you be more qualified? Now that he has dropped out of the election, you are probably doing the happy dance... you should be ashamed of yourselves. Grow up and move out of Junior High.

You don't have to live the life to gain experience. You can learn by being aware of whats going on. Everyone's life is different so why would you base your decisions on yours alone. Energy, enthusiasm, and motivation is what we need right now.

I agree with MooShoo. Tyler August is exactly what is wrong with Wisconsin politics.

He's probably been running the office, so you'd be getting more of the same, perhaps with a little more energy.

Tyler August is exactly what is wrong with Wisconsin politics. The young man has done nothing in his life but graduated from college and worked as a staffer is a two bit legislative office. He has no concept of solving real life problems or reaching consensus. Son, go out and get some life experience, and come back in 20 years.
