The Janesville School Board is taking a greater interest in expenses.
During a budget workshop session Monday night, several commissioners asked for more information regarding capital expenditures, classroom material costs, and staffing levels. Commissioner Bill Sodemann even asked how a 0% salary increase across the board would impact the tax levy. District CFO Keith Pennington provided the board with several scenarios to give the board an idea of how wage increases would impact the tax levy.
Even if teacher and other union employee raises were held to 2.5% next year, and administrator salaries were cut 5%, the tax levy would need to increase more than 10% for the budget to break even.
