— The vice president of the Whitewater Unified School Board died Thursday after his car crashed into a power pole shortly before 9 p.m.

Stephen J. Lamsam was traveling west on County Highway A about 1/4 mile east of Peck Station Road when he went off the road, overcorrected and went into the opposite ditch, striking the power pole, according to a Walworth County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Lamsam sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

A cause of death is yet to be determined.

Lamsam was in the second year of his third term on the board, having been re-elected in April 2008. He served as board president from 2002-04.

The board will discuss the vacancy left by Lamsam at its meeting Monday night meeting.

What a loss for the Whitewater community. Steve Lamsam was a wonderful person. He was a loving husband, proud father, and a close family friend who will be dearly missed.
