Two local state representatives are at odds over a $17 million remodeling project for UW-Whitewater.

Republican Steve Nass and Democrat Kim Hixson both serve the Whitewater area, but Nass calls Hixson's desire to renovate Carlson Hall an example of pork barrel spending. Hixson calls that absolutely ridiculous. Hixson says everything Nass claims is politically motivated to keep Hixson from getting reelected. Nass notes the state saved $23 million on other state building projects so far this year, and the Carlson project is nothing more than a state contribution to help Hixson in November.

Hixson calls the project a win-win-win for the area, creating a positive working environment, with the renovation offering jobs and economic development to the area.
