Comment period open on Larson Acres’ permit appeal
MADISON Larson Acres is appealing the Magnolia Town Board’s conditional-use permit for the farm’s expansion, and nearby residents and landowners have until Friday, April 2, to comment on the farm’s appeal.
The town of Magnolia last year approved a conditional-use permit with restrictions. Larson Acres is expanding the home farm at 18218W Highway 59, Evansville. Owner Ed Larson is appealing the town’s restrictions to the state Livestock Facility Siting Review Board because he “does not believe (the restrictions) can be required under the new state statute and rule,” according to a press release from the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
The appeal is separate from an earlier appeal now in front of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. The earlier appeal deals with the farm’s expansion of a heifer facility.
Residents and landowners within two miles of the proposed facility can submit comments to the board.
Statements must pertain to issues presented in Larson’s appeal request. No new arguments or evidence will be accepted. Information about the decision record may be obtained from the Town of Magnolia, 13343W County B, Brodhead.
Statements must be postmarked by Friday, April 2. Statements can be e-mailed to DATCPSitingBoard@wisconsin.gov, or mailed to LFSRB, Attention: Cheryl Daniels—Legal Section, P.O. Box 8911, Madison, WI 53708-8911.
For a copy of the appeal request submitted by Larson, contact Cheryl Daniels at (608) 224-5026 or e-mail to cheryl.daniels@wisconsin.gov.
