Parker coach Tom Klawitter screams about a call during the Vikings game against Craig on Friday.

The number may not look familiar, but the position will for Janesville Parker High School’s girls basketball team when WIAA tournament play begins.

Rather than their typical No. 1 spot, the Vikings (16-5) have received a No. 2 seed in the Janesville Craig Sectional, but they’ll again be sitting out opening night with a first-round regional bye.

Parker’s first tournament game in the Division 1 sectional’s lower bracket will be a Saturday, March 13, regional final at home against seventh-seeded Stoughton (10-10) or 10th-seeded Oregon (9-12).

Tournament plays begins with regional semifinals Tuesday, March 9, and top-seeded Verona (18-3) will receive a bye in the sectional’s upper bracket. The Wildcats will be at home March 13 for a regional final against eighth-seeded Kenosha Tremper (9-12) or ninth-seeded Janesville Craig (7-14), who meet at Kenosha on opening night.

Badger South runner-up Milton (18-2) is the No. 3 seed and hosts 14th-seeded Burlington (4-17) in the March 9 regional semifinals. The winner faces sixth-seeded Beloit Memorial (9-12) or 11th-seeded Wilmot (7-14).

If the top seeds advance, Verona would face fourth-seeded Westosha Central (13-8) in the first game of the Friday, March 19, sectional semifinals at Craig. Parker would be paired against Milton in the second game.

The winner of the sectional championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20, will advance to the March 25-27 state tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Verona has defeated Parker in the championship game of this sectional the last two years.

Monroe (20-1), which is bidding for a third straight trip to the Division 2 state tournament, has received a No. 1 seed in an upper-bracket regional that leads to a sectional final on Saturday afternoon, March 20, at Craig.

Brodhead and Edgerton are the No. 2 and 3 seeds in that regional and could meet in a second-round game on Thursday, March 11. The Cardinals open at home against seventh-seeded Evansville on Tuesday, March 9, while the Crimson Tide hosts sixth-seeded Mount Horeb.

Southern Lakes champion Union Grove is a No. 1 seed in a lower-bracket regional of that sectional. Delavan-Darien is a No. 3 seed in that regional and opens at home against sixth-seeded Clinton.

Nice caption, "screams." Nothing in the story to support Klawitter being a screamer. Were there no pictures of the coach throwing a chair on the court, or perhaps one of the players scoring a basket?
