Frey, Cashore lead Evansville to victory
It was a great day for the Evansville Jays’ Jon Frey and Brent Cashore.
Frey had three of the Jays’ six hits, including the game-winning RBI single in Evansville’s 2-1 victory over Cambridge in a Home Talent baseball Southeast Section crossover game Sunday at Evansville.
Frey laced his one-out bases-loaded single in the fifth inning to give the Jays the winning margin.
Cashore,Evansville’s start-er, turned in a stellar six-hitter, posting 14 strikeouts and walking none.
Cashore put down Cambridge in order through the final three innings to preserve the one-run victory.
The victory lifts Evansville to 4-5 while Cambridge falls to 3-6.
-- Albion 10, Deerfield 0 (7)—The Tigers hammered Deerfield with eight runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 10-run rule victory.
Albion had 10 hits, including three from Aaron Laskowski and two apiece from Ben Everson and Josh Eastman. Eastman smacked a two-run single in the seventh.
Tigers’ starter Justin Lambert held to Deerfield to one hit. Lambert had five strikeouts as Albion improved to
5-5 and Deerfieldfell to 2-7.
